Couples and Relationship Counselling Online
Closing the Wound offers online counselling in English for couples, and for adults who want help with a relationship, in Myanmar and Thailand. Sessions are with a US-trained, master’s-level therapist. You can start with a free 15-minute intro call.
Common Concerns
Couples and individuals come to counselling with concerns such as:
- arguments that repeat without being resolved
- growing distance, or feeling more like flatmates than partners
- an affair or another breach of trust
- differences in culture, language or family expectations
- decisions about moving, children or money
- deciding whether to stay together
Is Couples Therapy Worth It?
Research suggests it often helps. A 2020 review of 58 studies, covering 2,092 couples, found that relationship satisfaction rose during couple therapy, while couples on waiting lists did not improve. Communication and closeness also improved, and the gains were generally maintained afterwards (Roddy and colleagues, 2020). Results vary from couple to couple.
Coming on Your Own
You can also come on your own about a relationship: if your partner does not want to join, if you are deciding whether to stay, or if you want to understand a pattern that repeats across relationships.
What Happens in Couples Counselling?
Couples sessions are online and last 60 or 90 minutes. Partners can join together from one room, or from two places if you live apart. Sessions focus on the relationship, without taking sides, and help each of you say what matters and hear the other. Many people feel nervous before a first couples session. You can say so at the start, and go at a pace that suits you both.
How Many Sessions Do Couples Need?
It varies. Some couples come for a few sessions about one decision or conflict. Others work for longer on patterns that have built up over years. Progress is reviewed together.
Couples Counselling in Yangon or Bangkok
If you are looking for couples counselling in Yangon, couples therapy in Bangkok, or relationship help elsewhere in Myanmar or Thailand, sessions take place online and in English. That suits couples who share English as a common language, including partners from different countries.
Methods Used
- Narrative therapy, for seeing a problem as something you face together rather than a flaw in either of you.
- Parts work, for understanding the reactions that take over during conflict.
- Somatic work, for noticing when stress rises in a hard conversation and settling it.
- CBT techniques, for practical skills in communication and problem-solving.
